Dinner and a Movie: Wedding Crashers

April Dinner and a Movie

When Susan from Sticky Gooey Creamy Chewy and I started Dinner and a Movie, we wanted to make it a fun, low-pressure event without much structure. Since the whole point of the event is to be creative and come up with a unique interpretation of the movie through food, I upped the ante this month and chose a movie that has nothing to do with food.

Wedding Crashers is a comedy, starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as a pair of miscreants that crash weddings. It’s not exactly Oscar material, but it’s a fun watch, and I think there’s a lot of room to let your imagination run wild when coming up with your dish.

The obvious approach would be to make something wedding themed, but if you want to take a more figurative approach, try sneaking a pair of ingredients into a dish where they don’t belong. You might even find that the two oddball ingredients turn out to be the perfect match for the dish, and then the new pairings can all live happily ever after… Oops, did I just give away the plot?

If that’s not inspiration enough, you could always just crash someone’s wedding and see if any of the food inspires you. Not that I’m telling you to do this… I’m just saying…

Finally, please note that from this month on, we’ve decided to move the posting date to the 20th of the month. This means you have about 3 weeks to watch the movie, make something inspired by it, and post it. Be creative and have have fun!

Inspired idea, Marc! And for bloggers in the UK: the film is shown on tv over the Easter holidays, I think it might be on Good Friday.
