Smoked Pork Belly with Lentils

Around this time last year I got an email from Michelle at Thursday Night Smackdown, inviting me to their annual Memorial Day Smoke-a-Thon. At that time, I’d never met anyone from the blog offline, so it was a new experience for me and I wasn’t sure what to expect.

As it turned out, Michelle and Brian are awesome people that appreciate pork and beer (two of my favourite things in the world), and we had a fantastic time. When Michelle asked me to do a guest post for her blog, I thought it only appropriate to hark back to our first meeting and do something with smoked pork.

Just so you know, TNSD is the opposite of G rated and while I find it uproariously funny, those with more delicate sensibilities may find it offensive. In the interest of fitting in, I channeled my inner sailor and let the f-bombs fly, so be forewarned;-)

I went over there to read the cursing! Love the smoked pork bellies. And the cursing. You are now at least twice as famous as you were. Not only will the Smackdown folks show up here, but the Cursing Folks will come by, too!

Like you, I have imposed a no hard-core cursing ban on myself over at my place. So, I bet it was fun for you to let loose a bit! See, even right this very second I want to say a Terrible Word. Just for fun. Maybe I should poll my readers and see if it would make them sad…. :)

Wup, f bombs flying atcha! :) As we are not easily offended, there’s no shame or shock as we read up. Hmmm, should pork belly be on the barbie for our next grill fest?

Humm, I love this dish! it’s getting a bit warm for it, but it’s still rather cool at night. Well, that’s my excuse anyway!

swoon. ever since i made david chang’s belly buns and claypot braises, I have fallen for the belly. Smoking them is a playful dance around bacon, yes?

    Looks soooo good.

Nice combo Marc. We all love pork belly and we all know how rich it is. A bed of lentils makes for a good pairing…if not just for my conscience.

In Colombia we have a similar recipe, but we fry the pork belly in vegetable oil, it is not low fat!!!!
We call it lentejas con chicharron. (Lentils with fried pork belly) it is delicious.

    Ooooh, racy post, Marc!

I am craving pork belly since my birthday dinner at L20. I guess I could make my own, thanks for the inspiration.
