There’s a story about spending less money on Valentine’s Day that also happens to have a photo of me in it. It’s not the most flattering photo of me ever taken, but for a few hours this morning I was on the front page of the New York Times. Since we’re living off one income this year, we’ve cut back on gifts and are avoiding the crowds and premium pricing at restaurants by cooking dinner at home. Here’s the full menu which I’ll be posting pics of in a few days:
Trio of foie gras
Seared with 7-up poached apples and apple ice wine gelée
Grilled with bulgogi marinade and kimchi “glass”
Kakuni, layers of foie gras terrine with braised pork belly served with candied hijiki and yamamomo reductionWarm fillet mignon and fennel salad dressed with meyer lemons
Sous vide Lobster with yuzu hollandaise on a mound of uni mashed yukon gold potatoes
Tres Leches (3 milk cake) with a passion fruit sauce
You can read the article here.
And regardless of whether you’re spending the day with a significant other, your family, or by yourself, treat yourself to something nice and have a great day!
