Wine Braised Ham

I’m not usually a huge fan of ham, but braised in red wine, honey and caramelized onions it’s a delicious way to feed a lot of people with very little effort. I made this for a holiday party last week and it was a huge hit. Head over to PBS for the post.

I just watched a youtube video of you with sony where you showed us how to take pictures of food with various types of cameras. I have a question, which might be obvious to seasoned food photographers such as yourself. Let’s take the picture in this post for example, how did you get the white background? Is it a white wall or did you prop out a white board or paper?

I like to keep several different sizes of white foamcore board on hand. They make great reflectors, but they can also be used under your subject, this particular shot was on a large piece of foamcore board with a window in the background. The background is over exposed which is why you can’t see any of the detail from the window and it looks white.

What would you suggest if I am unable to find slab bacon?

Just ham is fine, I only included the bacon because I had some on hand.
