Note

I asked you to show me your best rice dish for a chance to win a Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy rice cooker, and show me you did. We received entries representing Mexico, Italy, India, Thailand, Korea, Japan, and some that were unique creations.

Now comes the hard part. The judges (Bee, Alice, and I) will spend the next couple days deliberating, and have the tough job of deciding who has the most delicious looking/sounding dish. In the mean time, check out all the amazing entries below.

Update 8.24.2010:

We have a winner! All the entries looked so good it was really tough doling out only 10 points. The first time I added up all my points I’d given out 14! But alas, I wrote the rules, so I had to stick by them, and pare it back to 10 points. There were also two other judges who had 10 points each, for a collective total of 30 points. With 8 points, Emiko from Kitchen M is the winner of the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy Rice cooker. Congratulations!

A big thanks to my two judges Bee, Alice, and to all of you who sent in an entry. They all sounded marvelous! P.S. if you’ve posted your recipes anywhere, send me the link and I’ll link to it on this page.

Lemongrass Clay Pot-style Brown Rice – 8 pts. WINNER

“A more healthful, accessible Vietnamese Clay Pot-style dish recipe with a Japanese twist made in a rice cooker. Lemongrass makes the brown rice more aromatic by balancing the Chinese sausage and garlic flavors, while daikon sprouts add a hint of spiciness.” -Emiko from Kitchen M

And the winner is…

August 14, 2010

Before I tell you who won the rice cooker, I have to say that I really enjoyed reading all of your responses to my question “Why do you like rice?”. The thoughts, memories, and insights that you all shared made me realized that there’s more to rice than the sustenance it provides. For some people, [...]

Win a Zojirushi Rice Cooker

While nothing beats the flavour you get out of cooking rice in a clay pot (mainly due to the caramelized rice you get at the bottom), having a rice cooker is a must, if you eat rice with any frequency. Until recently, I’d been using a small three-cup rice cooker that my mom gave me [...]

My past blogging projects have been less than successful. They swelled with so much enthusiasm initially, only to have the distractions in life deflate the excitement out of them like a burst balloon. The Internet is littered with thousands of these derelict blogs, set adrift by people who started them with the best intentions. When [...]

Some of you may remember that I was down in LA in late March. I can finally tell you what I was doing down there as the TV episode I was shooting will air in less than a month. I was flown out there to shoot an episode of Grill It With Bobby Flay for [...]

sponsored post As elaborate as some of the things on here may seem, I’m just as pressed for time as the next guy who’s working two jobs. There are some nights when even 20 minutes in the kitchen feels untenable, but I’d sooner eat out, than resort to a microwavable carton of food. That’s why [...]

Salisbury Steak – Everyday Meals with a Twist

July 13, 2010

sponsored post Salisbury Steak is one of those dishes that conjures up images of retro frozen dinners and school cafeterias, but in Japan it goes by a different name, and enjoys a popular status, right up there with curry rice and chicken teriyaki. The creation of Salisbury Steak is attributed to American Dr. J. H. [...]
