Dinner and a Movie, is a monthly food event which I co-host with Susan from Sticky Gooey Creamy Chewy. Each month, one of us picks a theme movie for the month. To participate, just watch it, cook something inspired by it and share your creation with the rest of us.
This month, I decided to go with a classic Oliver Stone flick that has lots of little food queues along the way. Wallstreet casts Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko, an unscrupulous corporate raider who takes rookie trader Bud Fox(Charlie Sheen) under his wing. Young and ambitious, Fox finds himself hooked on the easy money and cushy lifestyle that it buys and.
You didn't think I was going to spoil the entire movie for you did you?
By today's standards, the decor and gadgetry are comically dated, but the underlying themes are as pertinent as ever. It also opens a window back in time to what NY haute cuisine was like 23 years ago... and we've certainly come a long way in that time.
Watch the movie, let it inspire a dish, and post it on the 20th of August. If you want more details or want to see some of the past roundups, check out the event page
As a side note, you may have noticed a new link at the top of this page. I often get emails with random questions about ingredients, techniques, and food in general. I'm always happy to answer them by email, but it occured to me that this information might helpful for others as well. That's why I created the Ask Marc page. Post all your food related questions there and I'll do my best to answer them.
