Gomoku Gohan

Gomoku gohan recipe

This week over at PBS Food I’ve written about one of my favorite Japanese home-cooked dishes, gomoku gohan. Like its cousin pilaf, it involves cooking rice with other ingredients, but unlike pilaf, gomoku gohan works just as well as main as it does as a side. Read my full story on this delicious one-pot meal over at PBS and give the recipe a try!

Gomoku Gohan sounds delicious! Can it be made in a rice cooker?

Hi Kristin, absolutely. In Japan everyone makes it in a rice cooker. You can follow the instructions, except in step 4 instead of measuring out the water, just fill the rice cooker to the 2 cup line with the shiitake soaking liquid.

Can’t wait to try this. We love your Japanese curry rice.

I'm Marc, and I want to teach you some basic techniques and give you the confidence and inspiration so that you can cook without recipes too!
