JAPANESE GARLIC RICE

Japanese Garlic Rice is a teppanyaki restaurant classic. In this recipe, I'm going to show you how to make this flavorful fried rice at home, finished with savory garlic butter and crispy garlic chips.

INGREDIENTS

- 345 grams cooked rice - 9 grams garlic (1 large clove) - 1 tablespoon vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon butter - black pepper (to taste) - 1/4 teaspoon salt - 1 teaspoon soy sauce - flat leaf parsley

Crumble up your leftover rice so there are no clumps.

CRUMBLE RICE

Use a mandoline to slice 2/3 of the garlic into thin even slices. 

SLICE GARLIC

Grate the remaining garlic into a bowl with the butter and mash together to make the garlic butter.

MAKE GARLIC BUTTER

Arrange the sliced garlic in a single layer with the oil in a pan over medium low heat and fry, flipping periodically.

MAKE GARLIC CHIPS

When the garlic starts to tan around the edges and isn't sizzling very much anymore, transfer it out of the oil. 

BROWN GARLIC

Add the rice and stir-fry over high heat until it's reheated. 

STIR FRY RICE

Season the garlic rice with salt and pepper, and then drizzle the soy sauce around the rim of the pan. Toss and stir to distribute evenly.

SEASON GARLIC RICE

Add the garlic butter toss to coat the rice evenly.
