A delicious take on on the classic mojito cocktail using Japanese brown sugar shochu instead of rum.

Shochu Mojito

Mojitos are a refreshing Cuban cocktail made with mint, sugar, lime juice, and rum. In this version, I've replaced the rum with brown sugar shochu, which has a sweet, earthy flavor that makes it a delicious substitute for the rum.

  • 4 sprigs mint leaves only
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 lime 1 tablespoon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar shochu
  • ice
  • club soda


  1. Put the mint, sugar and lime juice into a 14-16 ounce highball glass.
  2. Use a muddler to bruise the mint, but do not pulverize it.
  3. Add the shochu and stir it.
  4. Fill the glass with large ice cubes and then top it off with club soda.
  5. Garnish with a sprig of mint and serve.
