Teriyaki

Drizzling authentic Japanese teriyaki sauce over chicken.

Teriyaki may be best known for its sweet-savory glaze, but in Japan, the word actually describes a cooking method. Teri(照り) meaning "shine" and yaki (焼き) refers to high-heat cooking, like pan-searing or grilling. At its core, teriyaki is about caramelizing a simple sauce around ingredients to create a glossy, flavorful coating. It's one of my go-to ways to make dinner feel special, even when I'm short on time. With just a few pantry staples, you can turn everyday proteins into meals that taste like they took way more effort. I hope these recipes help inspire your next weeknight meal!
